10 Part Series…
“Ten Signs It’s time for your aging loved one to be evaluated for additional care needs.”
#2 – The Hide in Seek Syndrome
Ever forget where you put your keys, or your wallet, purse, glasses? Well then, I am sorry to tell you, you are doomed. No really, there is some exception for normal aging forgetfulness.
We have busy lives… our file cabinet (the brain) has a lot of things to remember, so we occasionally forget where we put things. Usually we can ‘retrace’ our footsteps and ‘find’ the article missing.
It’s all good when that happens.
You might think ‘no big deal’, we all forget where we put things. How could this be dangerous, or be a problem? In some cases it isn’t a big deal. But imagine not being able to find that item. It can be frustrating for mom or dad, auntie or grammy.
What about when mom is out in the store, she puts her keys down and walks away, or her wallet after paying for groceries? Or what about leaving the keys in the door, so anyone walking by could enter that home? What about at home, she puts the milk in the pantry or the can opener in the microwave and turns it on, and uh oh, the microwave explodes?
Forgetting where we put things is very normal. Going back and retracing your steps usually brings it back. But what if they can’t?
If this is happening more often than not, it might be time to evaluate.
