Assisted Living is usually an apartment style setting where assistance is provided with all activities of daily living (ADL’s) such as, cooking, bathing, dressing, walking, and medication management.
When do people need Assisted Living?
When it is identified the senior cannot do these activities of daily living any longer at home, assisted living is a great option. It is a great way to keep seniors active and alert until they start declining at a fast pace.
Where are they?
Assisted living communities are all over, but you want to make sure to work with a Geriatric Care Management agency to help find the ‘right’ fit. They are not all alike.
Who pays for this?
This option is all privately funded. Medicare does not pay for it. Some Longterm care insurance policies cover these facilities. Check your policy details. The costs range from $3500 to $9000 per month depending upon care needs, so you can see why having a longterm care policy would be helpful toward affording this option.
